Anxiety/Stress Management

Anxiety frequently seems to arise overnight or is mistakenly attributed to a single  traumatic event. However, the accumulation of stressors or of daily minor hassles can be just as likely as one or two major life events to precipitate the onset of panic attacks or chronic anxiety. Clients can learn ways of reducing the number of stressful events in their lives as well as better ways of coping with unavoidable stressors when they do occur. Learning to better manage stressful events can help mitigate medical and emotional consequences. Treatment components may include relaxation techniques, cognitive coping strategies, time management, sleep hygiene, social skills/assertiveness training, and practical problem solving.

If you frequently experience any of the following, then a course of anxiety/stress management may be for you:

  • Fear of he worst happening
  • Repeatedly replaying problematic events/situation in your head
  • Terror based on nothing you can pinpoint
  • Lightheadedness or dizziness
  • Inability to remain focused
  • Worry about what might happen
  • Restlessness
  • Inability to sit still or relax
